"When Love Ends" - July 31, 2013

It hasn't been quite so rainy this past week, thankfully, with the heavens opening up
mainly at night, which is wonderful for sleep.  I'm often on Skype, nocturnally, since
the U. S. ( California ) is 12 hours earlier than India.

Last night, I spent an hour with a friend whose latest romance with "the love of her
life' ( about the 30th one in the many years I've known her ) met its demise.  I
listened to her lament that she is never going to love again.  I think I've said that a
few times myself.  At any rate, somewhere in the course of my usual sleeplessness,
came up with a poem.  I haven't done a poem in awhile on my blog so here it is.

When Love Ends

When will I learn to stand apart,
And hold steadfastly to my heart?
To keep an ever watchful eye,
To know when I should say goodbye.

I always let myself be charmed,
And so I shouldn’t be alarmed,
When love so quickly fades away,
Like the dying blooms on a bouquet.

A romantic I will always be,
I thought you were so right for me,
But, once again, I missed the mark,
I guess for you, this was a lark.

I must have wanted so much more,
But I wasn’t really keeping score,
I should have seen all the signs,
And read the writing between the lines.

And, so, I cry as our love ends,
I cannot even part as friends.
I feel I’ll be forever blue,
I never want another you.

Camera Critters #277 - Jerry, My 3rd Indian Cat Roommate - July 27, 2013

Slowly, but surely, I'm featuring all the kitties that share the condo in which I
am living.  Last will be Junior who is in solitary as he terrorizes his colleagues.
He lives in the back bedroom.  Norman sleeps there at night so he does have
company which, of course, makes the other cats jealous.  Eddy frequently
sits outside the door when Norman is in there, meowing piteously - though
he certainly gets more than his share of attention.  I've never spent time with
cats before so this has been an enlightening experience for me!

What exactly are you doing, Carmen?

That constant flash is most annoying!

Did Tom and Eddie have to go through this?

Back off, babe!

Can't you see, I'm trying to get a cat nap?

She is so persistent, isn't she?

Check these claws....I do scratch, you know!

Maybe if I close my eyes and pretend I'm asleep!

Forget sleep, I'll watch the rain!

Monsoon Rains Continue in Mumbai - July 26 2013

I'd like to see a sunny sky,
Instead of clouds of gray,
But, alas, it seems a futile wish,
More rains are on the way!

Monsoon is wreaking havoc,
Commuters face delay,
Air traffic is being rerouted,
Such is life in old Bombay.

The weather outlook for the coming week,
Continues rainy and very bleak!

Thursday Challenge: Hard - Keshava Temple, Somnathpura, India - July 25, 2013

During my first long visit to India, my dear blogging friend, Shiju Sugunan,
drove me down south to see Somnathpura and Mysore.  One of these days,
I am actually going to do a blog about both of these amazing places.

I chose one of the Keshava Temple ( also known as Somnathpura Temple )
buildings for my depiction of "hard".  Though carved of soapstone, a relatively
soft material ), the surface certainly felt hard to me.  The temple, which has
endured over 700 years, is one of the finest built in the Hoyasala style.

Lifesavers - Friday Flash 55 - July 19, 2013

Though monsoon rains continue,
I'm in a better mood,
I've found a good martini,
And really top notch food.

I can feast on rare carpaccio,
When the urge possesses me,
Just the shortest rickshaw ride,
From the Arabian Sea.

There's nothing like an ocean view,
To cure whatever's ailing you!

Even in the pouring rain!

Our World Tuesday: Week 99 - Scenes from Old Town, Patiala, Punjab, India

Patiala is the third largest city in southeastern Punjab in northern India.  "Royalty
is still considered as cultural and political icons in Patiala". His Highness
Maharajadhiraj Captain Amarinder Singh, Mahendra Bahudur heads the royal
house at the present time.

Patiala is also famous for its traditional turban, its "patiala pants" - rather
voluminous women's pants, the paranda - used for braiding hair, shoes
known as juttis which are often made of very colorful thread, and the Patiala
peg -  a measure of liquor popular in Indian Punjab. It is a volume roughly
equivalent to 120ml, though the rough and ready measure is the amount of
liquor needed to fill a glass equal to the height between the index and little
fingers when they are held parallel to one another. The name originates from
the city of Patiala in Indian Punjab, and is about 50% larger than a normal
shot glass.

Our World Tuesday: Week 98 - Rain, Rain, Rain - July 9, 2013

Mumbai rains continue.  We have an occasional day with only a sprinkle but
some days, there are deluges.  I stay pretty close to home, venturing only to
local restaurants and avoiding rickshaw rides into the flooded streets and
chaotic traffic.  I love hearing the rains at night, though.

Of course, some folks have to get out and go to work or head to the street
vendors for groceries.  I don't envy them at all.  I will be glad when monsoon
season ends!

Camera Critters #274 - More of my Cat Housemates - July 7 ( in India ), 2013

Since I posted pictures of Tom in a previous blog, Teddy & Eddy are envious.
To keep kitty harmony, I'llputting their pictures in Camera Critters. There is even
a fourth cat but he is relegated to the back bedroom as he is known as
"the terminator cat'.  He was the first one in the household and he does, indeed,
attack the others if he is allowed to roam freely.  Today, Eddy stars.

Our World Tuesday - Week 97 - Nighttime View of the Arabian Sea - July 2, 2013

Sometimes, in the torrential downpours of monsoon season, you can't even tell
what is outside my bedroom window in Bandra West.  How nice to get a break
in the rain to get this shot of nighttime south Mumbai and this bit of the
Arabian Sea.  Of course, as you can see from the sky, we had only a brief
reprieve from the downpours!

Monday Mellow Yellows - Bright Yellow Foliage - July 1, 2013

When I went to see Dr. Margaret Miranda in Mumbai the other day, I was
offered many photo opportunities.  Her office was in the midst of a lush tropical
garden with birds and flowers.  I found my Monday Mellow Yellow shot there but
I am not sure what the plant is but it grew in profusion.
