A Peacock in Jaipur - February 23, 2013

The peacock is the national bird of India.  At night, they nested in the trees
outside my Jaipur guest house, emitting their plaintive cries.  I seldom was
able to get a photograph of one - and never when one was dancing.  I
almost didn't see this one.  It was so well camouflaged by the trees.

Friday Flash 55 - Too Bad My Insurance Doesn't Pay For A Facelift - February 22, 2013

I came home from far off India,
Succumbed to the surgeon's knife,
Because my horrible shoulder pain,
Was messing up my life!

The shoulder on my left is new,
Five weeks ago today,
All that terrible pain was gone,
From the first postoperative day.

A bionic woman, though I'll be,
Other joints are bothering me.

Outdoor Wednesday, # 215 -Looking Out at San Francisco Bay From the Hills of Daly City - February 20, 2013

This picture was taken on a nice sunny day from Wembley Drive in Daly City.
It runs almost to Skyline Drive which separates the city of Pacifica from Daly City,
both in San Mateo County.  From parts of Skyline Drive, you can actually see
San Francisco Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other.  One thing
I do miss when I'm living in India is my proximity to the ocean - especially when
I'm living in places like Jaipur!

Sundays in My CIty - More of San Francisco's Painted Ladies - February 17, 2013

After physical therapy,  the other day, I drove around Pacific Heights, shooting a
few of the lovely houses.  This is best done early in the morning, before traffic
starts.  Even after living in the Bay Area nearly 30 years, these houses always
bring a smile to my face and start my daydreams.

The trees are still pretty bare in February

I wonder what it costs to heat one of these beautiful ladies

Nce in yellows and browns, with a touch of gold

Smaller but still lovely

This corner home looks like a good house several families

As always,San Francisco has limited parking

Here is a small one-car garage

A different style

This fairytale house with suit me just fine

Beautiful

Valentine's Day - February 14, 2013

Valentine's Day 2013

Champagne, chocolate, roses,
What do these really mean?
That on one day a year,
You're treated like a queen?

For me, each day is special,
Not just a February day,
You make me feel so loved,
In such a special way.

I really don't need chocolates,
Or a calorie laden sweet,
And if I drink it with you,
A cup of chai cannot be beat,

I've lived through lots of Valentine’s,
I've had sweethearts come and go,
But you're, by far, my number one,
That's why I love you so

On this day of celebrating love,
At home and about the world,
I send my loving thoughts to all,
I am such a lucky girl!

Happy Valentine's Day,

Carmen Henesy

Sundays in My City - San Francisco Night Scenes - February 10, 2013

Lucky San Franciscans were able to see the fabulous Sony Holland and her
extremely talented guitarist lyricist husband, Jerry Holland, both nights
this weekend at Café Divine. They are about the only reason, I would brave
North Beach traffic.  I drove around for an hour Saturday night before, I finally
found a parking spot. The area around Washington Square, the heart of San
Francisco's Italian section, is full of wonderful eating spots and clubs and
Chinatown is just a few blocks away.

I always love the evening glow of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Coit Tower,
and the Transamerica Pyramid.  I do love India but this city captured my heart
when I was 18 and it is still my favorite place on earth.

Coit Tower, atop telegraph Hill, was built in 1933, with the bequest of Lillie.
Hitchcock:Coit.  On January 29, 2008, it was named to the National Register
of Historic Places.

Lillie Coit had a special relationship with San Francisco firefighters, from adolescence
onward and is, today, there matron saint.

The views from Coit Tower are incredible but, with accessibility only by one road,
there can be a very long wait to get to the top of Telegraph Hill.  Fortunately,
there are frequent buses.

Saints Peter and Paul Church, known as "the Italian cathedral of the West",
is a Roman Catholic church located in San Francisco's North Beach area.
Since it was consecrated, it has been the home church and cultural center
for San Francisco's Italian-American community. In recent years,, it has also
become the home church for the city's Chinese-American community.  San
Francisco's Italian and Chinese sections border each other, providing a
wonderful glimpse of two cultures and incredible dining opportunities.

There were five bomb attacks against the church, in the course of one year,
from 1926 to 1927.  these were attributed to radical anti-Catholic anarchists.

Joe DiMaggio's first wedding was held here ( not the one to Marilyn Monroe )
and his funeral took place here.

When it was completed in 1972, the Transamerica Pyramid it was one of the five
tallest buildings in the world.  It is still San Francisco's tallest skyscraper.  It is
no longer home to the headquarters of the Transamerica Corporation

Monday Mellow Yellowts - San Francisco City Hall - February 4, 2013

The Super Bowl yesterday was quite a game,  Early on, it looked like my home
team, the San Francisco 49ers, was going to lose deplorably.  I felt really sad
because my youngest son, Jeremy, was in New Orleans at the game.  The final
score, however, was 34 - 31, not enough for a San Francisco win but, it
wasn't a slaughter.  San Francisco City Hall was beautifully lit and 49er colors,
nonetheless.

Camera-Critters #252 - Mother and Baby Water Buffalo - ,Bhankrota, Rajasthan, India

When I was living in Jaipur, India, a friend took me to see his family farm.  I loved the
water buffalo. The baby was so cute - Mom was not quite so pretty, in my opinion but,
to her little one, I'm sure she was the ultimate.

Wait a minute, I think this is actually Papa
